Meet Our Staff

Karla Dunning, MD

Karla is a board certified pathologist with board certifications in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Hematopathology, and Cytopathology. She received her undergraduate degree from of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN where she studied Biology and Art History, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus. Dr. Dunning also completed her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency and fellowship training in Hematopathology and Cytopathology at the University of Minnesota. 

Hobbies/ Interests: Knitting, pottery, gardening, hiking, spending time with her partner and two kids on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Jeff Hinson, MD

Jeff is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He completed the oncologic surgical pathology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and his primary subspecialty interests include both breast and genitourinary pathology (although he enjoys all things neoplasia no matter the primary organ).

 

Hobbies/Interests: Chelsea Football Club (Yes, I was a fan long before 2003, Blues Forever!), all things Tolkien and Lewis, and receiving great works of art from my kids. 

Christopher Wienczewski, MD

Chris is the group president.  He is a board certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology.  He is a graduate of Michigan State University where he studied Human Biology.  He received his medical degree from Wayne State University.  He completed his Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency as well as Cytopathology Fellowship training at Beaumont Health System in Royal Oak, MI.  He has been practicing with Pathology Services of Kalamazoo, P.C. since 2014.

Hobbies/Interests: Hockey, outdoor sports, hiking and rock hounding.

Sarah Sharghi, MD

Sarah is a board certified Anatomic and Clinical pathologist with subspecialty fellowship training in Hepatobiliary and Transplantation pathology and special interest in Gastrointestinal pathology. She graduated from Oakland University with a BS in Biochemistry and received her medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health.  She completed her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency at Penn State University, where she served as chief resident. She pursued fellowship training at University of Pittsburg Medical Center and began working with Pathology Services of Kalamazoo since 2015. She currently serves as the Bronson System Laboratory Medical Director and is actively involved in teaching future physicians at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker School of Medicine.

Hobbies/ Interests: Traveling with her family, Disney movies, cycling, Pilates, soccer, and golfing with friends.

Ellen Flatley, MD

Ellen is a board certified pathologist with board certifications in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Hematopathology. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a B.S. in cell and molecular biology and obtained her medical degree at the University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Flatley completed her anatomic and clinical pathology residency, surgical pathology fellowship and hematopathology fellowship at Oregon Health and Science University, where she also served as chief resident for one year.

Hobbies/ Interests: Gardening (kitchen garden, native plant landscaping and house plants), walking/hiking around local nature preserves and our National Parks, time spent with family and friends.

Houssam Attal, MD

 

Dr. Attal is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology. After finishing his pathology residency at Loyola University, he went on to fellowship in cytopathology at Wayne State University.  In his 32 years’ experience he maintained a broad general surgical pathology practice with particular interest in GYN pathology and Dermatopathology, all while focusing on the technical and diagnostic advancements in Pap testing and fine needle aspiration cytology.  He authored/coauthored seventeen publications in peer reviewed journals and gave more than thirty seven presentations in national forums and various scientific meetings and seminars.

 

In his spare time he travels and photographs people, animals and landscape.  His family and friends enjoy his cooking creations based on old Middle Eastern recipes fused with flavors for all around the world.

Joshua Kagan, MD

Joshua is a board certified pathologist with board certifications in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Cytopathology. He is a graduate of New York University where he studied Chemistry and Economic Policy. He received his medical degree from St. Georges University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Kagan completed his Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency at The State University of New York at Downstate, serving as chief resident in the department for one year. He continued on to pursue advanced fellowship training in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology at Emory University.

Hobbies/ Interests: Playing with his 2 year old, anything sci-fi/ comic related, Squash (the sport), pickleball, table tennis.

Christopher Sebastian, MD

Chris is a board certified anatomic and clinical pathologist with additional certification in molecular and genetic pathology. He received his undergraduate degree locally at Western Michigan University. He received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY. He completed residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Yale New Haven Medical Center and stayed on to complete fellowship training in Molecular and Genetic pathology. He completed a second fellowship in Surgical Oncologic Pathology at the University of California in San Francisco.

 Hobbies/ Interests: Travel, cycling, racquet sports, anything outdoors.

Sabrina Simpson, MD

Sabrina is a board certified pathologist with board certifications in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Hematopathology. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. in bacteriology.  She obtained her medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Simpson completed her anatomic and clinical pathology residency, at The Ohio State University where she served as chief resident in the department for one year. She also completed her hematopathology fellowship training at The Ohio State University. 

 

Hobbies/ Interests: Traveling with her husband to places off the beaten path, SCUBA diving, and growing ridiculously hot peppers.

Jordan Eldersveld, DO

Jordan is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He attended Grand Valley State University, earning a degree in Biomedical Science and graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Dr. Eldersveld received his medical degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his A/P residency training at the University of Arizona, where he served as chief resident his final year.
He went on to complete a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester with a subspecialty focus in GU pathology.
Hobbies/ Interests: Golfing, reading, spending time in nature and hanging out with his wife and three kids.

Renee Eigsti, MD

Renee is a board certified pathologist with board certifications in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Hematopathology. She is a graduate of Goshen College where she studied molecular biology and chemistry, graduating summa cum laude. She obtained her medical degree at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine where she completed a post sophomore fellowship in Pathology. Dr. Eigsti completed her anatomic and clinical pathology residency, surgical pathology fellowship, and hematopathology fellowship at the University of Iowa.

 

Hobbies/ Interests: Cooking/baking, hiking, reading, spending time with family and friends.
